On March 27, 2020, the New Jersey Supreme Court issued an Omnibus Order relating to court functions and operations during the COVID-19 state of emergency.Under that order, most filing deadlines, discovery deadlines and statutes of limitations that would have expired on or after March 16, 2020 were tolled until April 27, 2020.On April 24, 2020, the Supreme Court issued a Second Omnibus Order further tolling those deadlines to May 10, 2020.
Civil and criminal court calendars also remain impacted.As we previously reported https://www.npdlaw.com/blog/court-deadlines-extended-1 civil and criminal trials remain suspended indefinitely.Special Civil Part, Small Claims and Landlord/Tenant calendars also remain suspended through May 31, 2020.Municipal Courts, however, will start holding remote proceedings over the next few weeks.Also, the Law Division and Criminal Division continues to hear many matters and conduct case management through remote platforms.
